Egg Drop Course
STEM Egg Drop Activity
Using the Engineering Design Process, students will use limited materials to form a protective exterior for an egg. During this interactive egg drop course, students will discuss methods of protection, brainstorm different design ideas and collaborate on solutions.They will then test their theories by dropping their creations in the hope that their egg will remain protected.
Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
MS-ETS1-3 (Middle School Engineering Design)
Analyze data from egg drop tests to determine similarities and differences among several design solutions to identify the best characteristics of each that can be combined into a new solution to better meet the criteria.
3-5ETS1-1 (Elementary Engineering Design)
Define a simple egg drop design problem reflecting a need or want that includes specific criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost.
3-5ETS1-2 (Problem Solving & Testing)
Generate and compare multiple possible solutions to the egg drop challenge based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints on the problem.
